HarperCollins India launches The Harper Debate

HarperCollins India announced today that it will be hosting a new initiative called the Harper Debate, a series of conversations and panel discussions featuring HarperCollins authors, moderated by some of India’s top journalists, on issues that impact today’s society the most. The Harper Debate will help a budding generation of readers, thinkers and future leaders engage with new ideas and expand their worldview. It builds on HarperCollins’s belief in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the nation. The debates will be held live on the ground and made available widely on digital and electronic media.

Democracy is undergoing a seismic shift and in India, in what is the world’s largest election process—a mammoth undertaking that is taking place over several weeks—an estimated 900 million people are currently in the process of exercising their choice.

Everyone is talking about who to vote for, or against. Every vote will decide the future of the country for the next five years. In this scenario, it is more important than ever for the voter to be well informed and to make the right choice. The first Harper Debate will tackle this extremely relevant topic from multiple angles, looking at the political, social, economic and other factors at play.

The panellists of the first edition of the Harper Debate will be A.S. Dulat, John Elliott, Kallol Bhattacherjee, Pratik Sinha, Kaveree Bamzai, Gen. J.J. Singh, Ananya Borgohain and Deepa Agarwal. The debate will be moderated by Sunetra Choudhury.

Akriti Tyagi, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, HarperCollins India, said: ‘Many people around the country don’t really have access to high-quality debates on the issues relevant to their lives. We aim for the Harper Debate to fill this gap in the sphere of public discourse with a call for active civic participation. We hope this series will help mobilize public opinion.’
